Chemonics seeks a chief of party for an anticipated multiyear, USAID-funded rural water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) project in South Sudan. The project aims to support the government to increase sustainable access to improved water supply and promote better sanitation and hygiene in Central, Eastern, and Western Equatoria States. The focus will be on improving the WASH behaviors of individuals, households, and communities; expanding access to WASH infrastructure; developing and supporting public-private partnerships; and strengthening WASH governance. The chief of party must be able to work and travel throughout South Sudan. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.
Responsibilities include:
Provide overall project leadership, management, and technical direction
Serve as key liaison with USAID, government counterparts, and local partners
Manage and supervise the work of project personnel and subcontractors
Ensure that all project assistance is technically sound and appropriate
Collaboratively create and implement a strategic, long-term programmatic vision
Provide strategic technical expertise to shape project implementation, applying cutting-edge, creative, and community-driven solutions to water, sanitation, and hygiene challenges
Qualifications:
Advanced degree in public health preferably in combination with studies in public or business administration required
Practical knowledge of participative and community-led water, sanitation, and hygiene strategies
Minimum 10 years of senior-level experience designing and managing WASH-focused programs or working in health, development, and implementation of low-cost technology water and sanitation solutions in rural settings and in local capacity building; experience with USAID and other donor-funded projects preferred
Experience in organizing public outreach and education campaigns focused on public health and hygiene issues
Experience interacting and effectively coordinating with government agencies, host-county governments and counterparts, NGOs, and international donor agencies
Technical skills in cross-sectoral application of WASH principles to promote maternal and child health, nutrition, and water resource management
Ability to work and travel in remote areas of the country to oversee program implementation and provide technical expertise; familiarity with the political, social, and cultural context in South Sudan a plus
Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
Experience as chief of party on a donor-funded project in South Sudan, other African nation, or post-conflict environments preferred
Fluency in English required
